Kolo Toure: Manchester City defender will join Liverpool on July 1
Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Kolo Toure when his current contract with Manchester City expires on July 1.
The 32-year-old, who made 18 appearances for City this season, has been brought in by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers as a replacement for recently retired Jamie Carragher.
A statement on the Anfield club's official website read: "Liverpool Football Club can today announce they have agreed a deal in principle with Kolo Toure to join the club on July 1.
"The powerful defender will be registered as a Reds player when his current deal with Manchester City expires."
The future of centre-back Martin Skrtel remains in doubt after the Slovakia
international lost his place to Carragher in the second half of the season.
Comments from the player in his homeland over the weekend appeared to suggest a move was a possibility and with Sebastian Coates also likely to be moved on, Rodgers' defence needs rebuilding.
Toure arrives at Anfield with a wealth of experience having represented City and Arsenal in the Premier League after arriving in England 11 years ago.
During his four years with City he made over 100 appearances and tasted glory in the Premier League and FA Cup.
The Ivory Coast international, who was signed by Arsene Wenger from ASEC Mimosas, made over 200 appearances for Arsenal, claiming the Premier League title and two FA Cup winners' medals.
